Australia gives her a 482 visa where her husband can work, but the OBA OSCE requires flying to Adelaide, and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (N&MC) does not have a direct verification API with AHPRA the way NMCN does. Verifications get routed manually and frequently stall.

Canada, by contrast, lets her enter on a Provincial Nominee Program stream or via Express Entry, her spouse gets an open work permit the moment she lands, and her children attend public school free. That is why most Ghana nurses moving to Toronto, Calgary, or Halifax in 2026 are choosing Canada.

The 7-Step Ghana to Canada Nursing Pathway in 2026

  1. Create your NNAS account. The National Nursing Assessment Service costs USD 650, roughly GHS 9,750 at April 2026 rates. Pay in USD via card.
  1. Request your N&MC verification. This is where Ghana applicants get burned. The N&MC online portal has a known quirk: it accepts your application and payment but staff often will not action the verification until you physically visit the office on Independence Avenue in Accra with your printed receipt. Plan a day for this. Kumasi and Takoradi-based nurses, factor in the trip.
  1. Source your transcripts and employment letters. Send these directly from your nursing school (Nursing and Midwifery Training College, KNUST, UG, etc.) and every employer to NNAS. Sealed envelopes only.
  1. Sit IELTS Academic or CELBAN. The British Council IELTS centre in Accra (Ridge) and the centre in Kumasi both run monthly. You need 7.0 in speaking, listening, reading, and 6.5 in writing for most provinces. CELBAN is harder to access from Ghana but accepted everywhere.
  1. Receive your NNAS Advisory Report. Comparable, Somewhat Comparable, or Not Comparable. Ghana RNs trained at degree level usually get Comparable. Diploma-trained RNs often get Somewhat Comparable and need bridging.
  1. Apply to a provincial regulator. CNO (Ontario), CRNA (Alberta), CRNNS (Nova Scotia), or BCCNM (British Columbia). Each has its own fee, roughly CAD 600 to CAD 900, or about GHS 6,500 to GHS 9,800.
  1. Write the NCLEX-RN. Pearson VUE has no test centre in Ghana. You will fly to Lagos, Johannesburg, or London. Lagos is cheapest. Budget GHS 12,000 for flights, hotel, and exam fee combined.
